Overview

Responsible for developing and implementing all media plans, identifying target audience and ideal media outlets.  Prepares and disseminates press releases for The Elizabeth Hospice and its affiliate programs.  Supports agency community outreach efforts in raising community awareness about the organization at community events, health fairs, and mission-related meetings. Coordinates Veterans Outreach Program and activities for the agency.

 

The Elizabeth Hospice is San Diego’s oldest non-profit hospice of 45 years.  We are growing and looking for talented individuals to join our high performing team and support our mission.  We serve all of San Diego county and south Riverside county with multiple hospice office locations.  

 

Our Mission:  To enhance the quality of life for those nearing the end of life’s journey and for those who grieve.

 

Work Schedule: Part time-25+ hours per week, days and hours may vary

Salary: $36 - $40 per hour. Based on  experience and qualifications.

Work Location: Escondido, CA

Travel: May be required to travel to multiple sites: attend events and meetings

Responsibilities

  1. Prepares and distributes press releases.
  2. Ensure consistent representation of hospice’s mission, identity, and key messages in all print and media materials.
  3. Interfaces with all departments to develop story pitches for all media outlets.
  4. Develop and implement strategic advertising plans.
  5. Manage media relations, including social media campaigns.
  6. Write, edit and proofread all print and electronic communications materials, or oversee these tasks.
  7. Respond to public information inquiries and make appropriate referrals.
  8. Gain media coverage by cultivating relations with key media contacts.
  9. Develop and maintain media and other target audience contact lists.
  10. Oversees Veterans Outreach Program including training of staff and volunteers in veterans-related activities and events, such as Veterans Pinning Ceremonies and the Vet-to-Vet Volunteer Program.
  11. Publicize program events and agency news (on and offsite).
  12. Generate story ideas that increase awareness for the organization as a whole.
  13. Participate in agency meetings or committees that are agreed upon by employee and manager.
  14. Track effectiveness of advertising and social media campaigns.
  15. Track media exposure through clippings and communicate to manager monthly.
  16. Provides back-up for the department on approved tasks and assignments.
  17. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Public Relations, or Communications and 3-5 years of experience in communications, marketing, or public relations with measurable results, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Published material preferred.
  3. Intermediate to Advanced desktop publishing; proficient in Microsoft Office – Word, PowerPoint; Outlook
  4. Current California driver’s license and proof of auto insurance.
